[A man walks with a cane and a travel bag.]
[O'Brien holds a white cloth as she talks to Anna and Gwen as the house maids make the bed.]

O'Brien: Neither were picked up. That's what he said.
他们都没获救 老爷是这么说的

Anna: Mr. Crawley and Mr. Patrick?
Crawley先生和Patrick先生吗

O'Brien: That's what he said.
他是这样说的

Her Ladyship was the color of this cloth.
夫人的脸色比这布还白

Gwen: Well, it's a terrible shame if it's true.
要是真的就太糟糕了

O'Brien: It's worse than a shame. It's a complication.
何止糟糕 简直乱套了

[O'Brien leaves. Gwen and Anna follow O'Brien down the servants' staircase.]

Gwen: What do you mean?
什么意思

O'Brien: What do you think?
你说呢

Mr Crawley was his Lordship's cousin and heir to the title.
Crawley先生是老爷的堂兄 爵位的继承人

Gwen: I thought Lady Mary was the heir.
继承人不是Mary小姐吗

She's a girl, stupid. Girls can't inherit.

But now Mr Crawley's dead, and Mr Patrick was his only son.

Anna: It's a dreadful thing.

[The maids find Mr Bates standing in the servants' corridor with his cane and travel bag.]

Bates: Hello? I've been waiting at the back door... I knocked, but no-one came.

O'Brien: So you pushed in?

Bates: I'm John Bates, the new valet.
我是John Bates 新来的贴身男仆

O'Brien: The new valet?
是吗

Bates: That's right.
正是

[O'Brien looks down at Bates's cane.]

O'Brien: You're early. Came on the milk train.
来得真早 搭头班车来的

Bates: Thought I'd get to know the place, start tonight.
先熟悉下环境 今晚便可开工

Anna: I'm Anna, the head housemaid.
我是Anna 女仆领班

Bates: How do you do?
你好

O'Brien And I'm Miss O'Brien, her Ladyship's maid.
我是O'Brien 夫人的女仆

You'd better come along with us.

情景模式:

1. 情景:你的同学上着体育课,突然倒在地上,脸色苍白,这时候,你可以用下面这句话来描述:
Sb. is the color of a white cloth.
源于台词:Her Ladyship was the color of this cloth.

2. 情景:你的同学偷了其他同学的单车,老师知道后老师在班上批评了他,这样你的同学已经耻辱了,但是他拒不承认的态度使得老师非常气愤,决定向政教处汇报将在晨会上在全校点名批评,这时候,你可以用这句话形容你的同学的情况:
It is worse than...(表示后面发生的事情比前面发生的事情更严重)

3. 情景:表示一个人来得很早,就这么简单地说:
You're early.
